after Christmas sales

These after Christmas sales are almost as popular as Black Friday sales.  I say almost.  That is if you have any money left after Christmas.  The retailers use this day to mark down mostly holiday decorations, to get rid of the last of the current year’s inventory.  They do have other items that are significantly marked down, but most of it is pretty much picked over. I’ve seen after Christmas sales in the past that are as much as 75-80% off the regular price, or sometimes even sale prices.

It’s a great time to stock up on holiday paper products, replace decorations that are broken, or to add decorations for a new look for next year.  I’m guessing that as you pulled out decorations from their slumber, you noticed some that needed repair, had pieces that were MIA, or that you no longer wanted.  I’m also guessing you either tossed them or put them back in their bins to be dealt with at a later time.  If you tossed some decorations, you now have more storage space, yay!

Retailers don’t do a lot of advertising for after Christmas sales; it’s more of a well-known fact that prices will be marked down significantly the day after Christmas.  If you’re an online shopper, I don’t think they have online after Christmas sales but maybe they do.  I think the premise is to get you into the stores to entice you to buy items other than sale priced holiday décor to further reduce their inventory.

So, if you have the next day off, have a few bucks left, and still have a desire to shop, you will want to be in your favorite stores early so you get the best selection.
