Now Where Did I Put My Glasses?

By |2020-11-17T13:41:42-06:00April 15th, 2013|Categories: Holiday Organization, Organizing Tips|

Oops! They’re on top of my head. Now how did they get there? No, you’re not losing your mind. You were probably just so engrossed in what you were doing that you didn’t even notice you put them there. We all spend time looking for misplaced items, some more than others. Even the most organized people forget things on occasion. Ever walk into a room and forget why you came in there? That happens to me a lot, and it drives me crazy. I would wonder if it’s just that I’m getting older and my memory isn’t so good anymore. Not that [...]

I’m so Busy I Don’t Have Time to…

By |2020-11-17T13:41:43-06:00January 20th, 2013|Categories: Holiday Organization, Organizing Tips|

Write a book, take the kids to Disney World, plant an herb garden… fill in the blank. How many times have you said these very same words? I’m guessing a lot, I know I have. Why is it that we don’t have time to do the things that we want to do, that we feel are so important? Charles Bruxton once said, “You will never ‘find’ time for anything. If you want time, you must make it.” Mr. Bruxton is a wise man. We seem to ‘make’ time to do the things, or at least, most of the things we need to do [...]

After Christmas Sales

By |2020-11-17T13:41:43-06:00December 17th, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Holidays, Storage|Tags: , |

These after Christmas sales are almost as popular as Black Friday sales.  I say almost.  That is if you have any money left after Christmas.  The retailers use this day to mark down mostly holiday decorations, to get rid of the last of the current year’s inventory.  They do have other items that are significantly marked down, but most of it is pretty much picked over. I’ve seen after Christmas sales in the past that are as much as 75-80% off the regular price, or sometimes even sale prices. It’s a great time to stock up on holiday paper products, [...]

Holiday Planning

By |2023-11-30T14:29:50-06:00December 13th, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Holidays, Organizing Tips, Planning|Tags: , , , |

Do you get anxious every year as we approach the holiday season? Perhaps when you begin to see Christmas ads in your mailbox, or holiday displays in stores that you frequent. Retailers seem to start earlier and earlier every year, sometimes before Halloween. It can be overwhelming, and a reminder that you better start your holiday planning so you will be ready for this festive time of year. It can be a stressful time. There are gifts to make or purchase, some that may need to be sent to loved ones in another state or country. Possibly greeting cards to mail, [...]

Thanksgiving Turkey Wishbone

By |2014-12-15T13:29:01-06:00November 18th, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Organizing Tips|

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving! I love the idea of eating all day long and lying around like a sloth, having conversations with family members in between naps. What could be better than that? I remember when I was a kid, helping my mom prepare the stuffing by drying out bread for the homemade stuffing that went into the turkey. Yes she made the stuffing herself! Ahhh traditions… Another tradition I remember as a kid, was fighting over which 2 of the 3 of us kids would make a wish, and break the wishbone. The deal was, whoever found the [...]

Organize Your Kitchen for the Holidays

By |2020-11-17T13:41:44-06:00October 13th, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Holidays, Kitchen, Organizing Tips|Tags: , , , |

Here we are, once again, at the beginning of October and just past the autumnal equinox. Temperatures are cooling, leaves are beginning to turn colors and will soon begin their descent from their limbs to the ground. Fall decorations are beginning to appear in shop windows and in many homes around the neighborhood. The holidays are just around the corner, and it’s time to begin preparations for all the festive events that take place this time of year. As we begin to plan for the upcoming holidays and the gatherings with family and friends, meal planning is a big piece of the [...]

Rubbermaid Spice Rack

By |2020-11-17T13:41:46-06:00July 2nd, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Organizing Tips|

Rubbermaid is one of my favorite brands for organizational products. They have good quality products that seem to last forever. Product’s that save space and have the versatility to be used in multiple ways is high on my list of ‘favorite things’. Their spice rack fits the bill nicely both for versatility and space saving. It mounts in a cabinet and has a pull down feature so you can see items on all 3 tiers. Organizing spices in a cabinet or a pantry can sometimes be quite a challenge, especially if you cook a lot and have many spices. You may [...]

2012 NAPO St. Louis Shred Event

By |2020-11-17T13:41:47-06:00April 11th, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Organizing Tips|

It’s that time of year again – tax time. Hopefully by this time you have filed your income tax return and are in the midst of happily spending your refund. If not, you better get on it as the deadline for this year is Tuesday, April 17th. After you have filed your taxes for the year, this might be a good time to go through your file cabinet and get rid of all those papers that you no longer need. Many of which probably have personal information that you don’t want to fall into the hands of an identity thief. [...]

Two Motivators – Pain Or Pleasure

By |2020-11-17T13:41:48-06:00February 8th, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Organizing Tips|

In the book, Awaken The Giant Within, Anthony Robbins says that “Everything you and I do, we do either out of our need to avoid pain or our desire to gain pleasure”. After I read this statement, I thought about what has motivated me in the past and he’s right! It always comes down to moving away from pain or moving toward pleasure. And, depending on the goal, both motivators may come into play. For example, starting a business could move you away from the pain of working for someone else, and could provide the pleasure of setting your own schedule and [...]

Gift Giving for the Holidays

By |2020-11-17T13:41:49-06:00December 12th, 2011|Categories: Holiday Organization, Holidays, Organizing Tips|Tags: , , |

Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and Joy to the World are just some of the wonderful carols we sing to celebrate the season. We hear them piped into all the stores earlier and earlier every year. It’s the retailer’s way of getting us in the holiday moodand enticing us to buy gifts from them for all our gift giving. Some of the stores even have a calendar countdown to show us how few days we have left until Christmas. It’s a lot of pressure on us to make sure we have all the gifts purchased for everyone on our list. And finding [...]
