By |2020-11-17T13:41:28-06:00January 24th, 2018|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips, Peace|Tags: , , |

Several years ago I wrote a post called, ‘Creating Peace at Home Through Organizing’.  Click on the link to read the full article.  The article explains why decluttering and organizing the spaces in your home is so important to achieve peace in your life. In that post I used the acronym PEACE to describe the five steps in the organizing process.  The acronym was created to depict the result of organized spaces - peace. This post is the first in the series to provide more details for each step in the organizing process. You’ve already determined that you want to [...]

Productivity & Organization via Smartphone

By |2020-11-17T13:41:29-06:00October 18th, 2017|Categories: Home Organization, Productivity, Reduce Stress|Tags: , , |

In January 2017, about 95% of Americans owned a cell phone of some kind. About 77% own smartphones, per the Pew Research Center.  That means that the average person has the ability to stay connected to others in some way, whether you own a cell phone or a smartphone. Smartphones have advanced in technology exponentially over a very short period of time.  There is little if anything, that you cannot do on a smartphone that you can do on a laptop or a desktop computer. Since smartphones can be connected to the internet, any kind of information is right at [...]

Fold T Shirts & File in Drawers

By |2020-11-17T13:41:29-06:00August 16th, 2017|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips|Tags: , , , |

Everyone has t shirts. Not everyone stores their t shirts the same way. Unless you hang them on hangers, you probably fold t shirts.  Some store them on a closet shelf, while others store them in drawers. When you store folded t shirts on shelves, you can easily see the colors which makes it easy to choose the t shirt you want to wear.  That’s not usually the case when they are stored in a drawer.  Since they’re stacked, you can’t easily see the t shirts on the bottom of the stack.  This may be one reason why we wear [...]

Too Many Choices

By |2020-11-17T13:41:30-06:00May 24th, 2017|Categories: Decluttering, Home Organization, Problem Solving, Reduce Stress|Tags: , , , |

Too many choices can cause indecision, which leads to frustration, and consequently, stress.  Think about it.  Have you ever been to a restaurant that has a menu with so many pages it looks like a novel? The wait staff wants to take your order but you can’t decide, so you ask for a few more minutes.  Those few more minutes go by and you still can’t decide.  Maybe your dining partners have the same issue.  You end up stressed out and order something that you may not be happy with because you had too many choices. How about your overstuffed [...]

13 Ways to be Proactive

By |2020-11-17T13:41:30-06:00May 9th, 2017|Categories: Home Organization, Reduce Stress|Tags: , , , |

According to Merriam-Webster, being proactive means ‘to act in anticipation of future problems, needs or changes’.  They also define mitigate as follows, ‘make less severe or painful’.  These two words work in sync to help reduce the amount of stress in our lives. When you’re proactive, you mitigate the stress of being unprepared. Unfortunately, we can’t anticipate every problem, need or change that can happen in our lives.  However, when a situation comes up that triggers thoughts that make you think that you can be better prepared next time, act on that thought. The key to this line of [...]

Misplaced Glasses

By |2020-11-17T13:41:30-06:00April 22nd, 2017|Categories: Decluttering, Focus, Home Organization, Reduce Stress|Tags: , , |

Anyone that wears glasses, has at some time, or many times, misplaced them.  Those that wear reading glasses only, may misplace them more than those that wear glasses all the time.  This probably occurs most often when we’re tired or distracted. When you’re tired, you don’t want to fall asleep with them on and risk damaging them, so you take them off and put them down.  You’re sleepy so you don’t really pay attention to what you’re doing when you set them down. The same thing happens when you’re distracted from a task that requires you to wear your glasses.  [...]

Spring Cleaning Renews Home & Soul

By |2020-11-17T13:41:30-06:00March 24th, 2017|Categories: Home Organization, Peace, Spring Cleaning|Tags: , , , , |

Spring is a time that refreshes, renews, and brings positive energy into our homes and souls. Spring cleaning is a ritual a lot of us engage in at the beginning of the season.  Some are anxious to begin, others dread it, and some just don’t do it at all. The term ‘spring cleaning’ means different things to everyone.  To some it may mean cleaning the house from top to bottom and everything in between. To others it may mean cleaning things that don’t get done during regular cleaning sessions. Whatever it means to you, the results have an internal effect [...]

What is the best way to prevent clutter & save money? As the title says, visit your local library.  They have a myriad of books, magazines, cd’s, dvd’s, & books on tape. Not sure if I missed anything, but all of these items that we buy can lead to a whole lot of clutter.  Clutter that we have to maintain in some fashion, which has associated costs. To keep them organized so you can find what you need when you need it, there is a storage component.  You may need to purchase storage if you don’t already have something you [...]

Media Storage-How to Determine Your Needs

By |2020-11-17T13:41:31-06:00January 20th, 2017|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips, Rightsizing, Storage|Tags: , , |

Media storage can be challenging for many reasons.  Even though we’re living in the on-demand digital age, many of us have physical media that we still use.  Just like items that we can touch, we need to find a place for media to live and that means storage. Typically, we store our things where we use them. That makes our things easily accessible where and when we need them, and we know what we own so we don’t buy duplicates. As mentioned in previous posts, our belongings need to be proportionate to our living spaces.  With that in mind, [...]
