Media Storage-How to Determine Your Needs

By |2020-11-17T13:41:31-06:00January 20th, 2017|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips, Rightsizing, Storage|Tags: , , |

Media storage can be challenging for many reasons.  Even though we’re living in the on-demand digital age, many of us have physical media that we still use.  Just like items that we can touch, we need to find a place for media to live and that means storage. Typically, we store our things where we use them. That makes our things easily accessible where and when we need them, and we know what we own so we don’t buy duplicates. As mentioned in previous posts, our belongings need to be proportionate to our living spaces.  With that in mind, [...]

Junk Drawers = Miscellaneous

By |2020-11-17T13:41:31-06:00December 21st, 2016|Categories: Home Organization, Kitchen, Organizing Tips, Storage|Tags: , , , , |

Junk drawers are equivalent to a box marked ‘miscellaneous’.  Organizers tend to shy away from those labels.  Why you ask?  Because it’s a catchall phrase that means that the items in the junk drawer or misc box have no assigned homes.  And we don’t actually know what is inside this junk drawer or misc box. We have to dig through said drawers or boxes to find what we are looking for. Another reason could be that these items have assigned homes, but because we are busy, it’s just quicker to stash it away in a nearby drawer than to put [...]

Storing your recipes can become challenging.  They come to us in many ways.  Some are handed down from our Moms in books or cut out of magazines, or even handwritten on index cards.  Now that we are in the digital age, some are printed from emails or from websites, and there are apps on our electronic devices to find & store them. Everyone is different and your preference for storing your recipes could be different from others.  As mentioned above, there are typically 2 different mediums of recipes; paper and digital.  You can use a combination of the 2 mediums, [...]

By |2020-11-17T13:41:31-06:00November 9th, 2016|Categories: Paper Management, Planning, Productivity, Storage|Tags: , , , |

A portable office can mean different things to different people.  To some it means working out of their car, to others it can mean the ability to work in various rooms around their home, or bringing work home from the office.  Actually, anything that can be moved from one place to another makes it portable. There can be a variety of reasons why we have a need for a portable office.  Some may have no spare room or space for a home office.  Others may not like to work in the space where they set up their home [...]

On-The-Go Personal Storage

By |2020-11-17T13:41:40-06:00September 9th, 2013|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips, Storage|Tags: , , , , |

Everyone has personal things that they need to keep with them at all times. Identification is probably the most important personal storage item. House, car keys, cell phone and legal tender such as cash, credit or debit cards also top the list of very important items. Other items you may need outside the home that may be specific to each person could be personal care items. Some items we take from home could be specific to where we go, such as school, work, or to the gym. The items we take to these places are more likely larger than the items noted [...]

After Christmas Sales

By |2020-11-17T13:41:43-06:00December 17th, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Holidays, Storage|Tags: , |

These after Christmas sales are almost as popular as Black Friday sales.  I say almost.  That is if you have any money left after Christmas.  The retailers use this day to mark down mostly holiday decorations, to get rid of the last of the current year’s inventory.  They do have other items that are significantly marked down, but most of it is pretty much picked over. I’ve seen after Christmas sales in the past that are as much as 75-80% off the regular price, or sometimes even sale prices. It’s a great time to stock up on holiday paper products, [...]

Organizing Your Gift Closet

By |2020-11-17T13:41:43-06:00December 9th, 2012|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips, Storage|Tags: , , , , |

Throughout the year, when I run across an item that I think would make a great gift for someone, I buy it and put it in my gift closet. The reason I do this is because, in years past when I found a unique item and I didn’t get it, and the occasion rolled around and I needed this item, I couldn’t find it again. It’s also an opportunity to be one step ahead in my holiday gift planning. Purchasing these unique items as you find them presents another thing to consider, how and where to store them until you need [...]
