get organizedThis past week we rang out the old year and celebrated the beginning of a new year. The holiday festivities are done and it’s time to get organized for what lies ahead.  All the decorations need to go back to their homes and we need to find homes for gifts received from family and friends.

The new year also signals a time to reflect on the past year. A time to look back and think about all that you have accomplished, and also to look at the things you planned to do that didn’t come to fruition. It’s time once again to set goals and create a plan to accomplish those goals.

January is also when we celebrate GO (Get Organized) Month! Getting organized can not only help you set goals for this year, but will provide the means to reach those goals. When you get organized you are in control of your time and spaces and that adds up to less stress in your life.

You can accomplish more and use the time to do more of what you want to do. Whether it’s spending more quality time with family, or starting that business you always dreamed of, getting organized can help you achieve your goals.

There are many resources available to help you get organized. The St. Louis chapter of NAPO (National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals) is a great organizing resource. Visit the NAPO St. Louis Facebook page for organizing tips throughout January and every month. Below are some tips to help you as you determine your goals for the new year.

  • Write down everything you want to accomplish this year
  • Prioritize your goals
  • Create tasks associated with your goals
  • Schedule tasks in your planner and attach realistic due dates
  • Measure your progress
  • Post your goals so you have a constant reminder of them
