Cutting Down a Tree Can be Heartbreaking

By |2022-10-10T11:08:01-05:00October 12th, 2022|Categories: Efficiency|Tags: , , , , |

Recently, I had to have 2 large trees in my yard cut down, one in the back that is dead, and one in the front that is much larger than the tree in the back. As I sit here in my office watching them work on the dead tree in the back yard, I am so impressed with the crew that is doing the work. This is dangerous work, and they have this process down. The crew works very well with each other, and it appears that each one has his or her role in the process. I am also [...]

How to Efficiently Organize Tools

It’s been my experience that the best organized solutions work in tandem with your natural routines. Having said that, when you organize tools used in routines, the whole process just flows. I wrote a blog post many years ago called, Behavior Based Organizing. The gist of the article states that ‘the key is the efficiency of the steps in the routine, in terms of behavior’. Multiples of One Item Doesn’t Always Cause Clutter

By |2020-11-17T13:41:14-06:00May 20th, 2020|Categories: Productivity|Tags: , , , , |

Professional organizers, me included, often write about having multiples of one item causing clutter. That can be true if you’re not using all of them due to lack of need, and organization. Each item you own needs to be assigned a home, but sometimes homes can be in various places, confused? Let me explain. There are some instances where multiples of one item are needed because you use them in more than one location.  This concept can be a time saver. Multiples of one item such as reading glasses, may be used in different rooms in your home at different [...]

A Process Depends on The Next Step Until Completion

As I was watching my street being repaired by replacing sections of concrete, it made me think about processes.  This has been ongoing for about a month, so I’ve grown accustomed to watching the repetitious series of the steps of their process, waiting for the next step. A process is a series of actions that end when the last step in the process is complete.  For each section of concrete, the steps of the process are the same.  It begins with the first step of placing cones around the section, or sections that need to be replaced. The next step [...]

‘Use processes to increase productivity.’  Anyone that has ever worked in an office understands that statement.  As a matter of fact, everything we do, whether it’s income generating or not, revolves around a process.  The word ‘process’ is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as follows, “a series of actions that produce something or that lead to a particular result.” The particular result in regards to using processes is increased productivity.  You save time by not having to think about the steps you need to take to produce a particular result.  When you repeat a process regularly, it becomes routine, you [...]
