Using Visual Cues as Reminders

By |2020-11-17T13:41:12-06:00July 22nd, 2020|Categories: Productivity|Tags: , , , , , |

Using visual cues as reminders to do things is a great productivity hack.  On a related note, it’s a great way to create a routine, and also to reach a goal. We all have a lot of things to do on a daily basis and remembering to do them can be challenging. However, when we get into the habit of performing repetitive tasks such as in a routine, after some time, the routine becomes habit and we don’t even think about the actions involved. In the case of creating a routine, visual cues come in handy as a reminder to [...]

It’s All About Repetition

By |2020-11-17T13:41:12-06:00July 1st, 2020|Categories: Change, Routines|Tags: , , , |

The definition of repetition according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary is, “the act or an instance of repeating or being repeated”. Repetition is key for so many situations, but probably the most important is learning.  When we learn something new, we repeat what we’ve learned to remember how to do it again.  We practice the action repeatedly so our brain solidifies the data to store for retrieval when we need it. About seven months ago, I adopted a young standard poodle from a local rescue named Star. The rescue was unsure of how her previous owners treated her, but she’s seems [...]

Adapting to Change in Unprecedented Times

By |2020-11-17T13:41:14-06:00April 29th, 2020|Categories: Change|Tags: , , , |

These are unprecedented times for sure. This is of course, due to the COVID-19 virus.  The last pandemic in recent history was the 1918 influenza.  Both have claimed a lot of lives and changed the course of everyday life. There are similarities in the way we are living now and then during these pandemics. However, the world has seen a plethora of change since the time of the 1918 pandemic. Many businesses have closed, some temporarily, or downsized significantly resulting in a lot of people losing their jobs. Many businesses are struggling and are trying to change the way they [...]

A Small Change Can Make a Big Impact

By |2020-11-17T13:41:17-06:00January 8th, 2020|Categories: Change, Problem Solving|Tags: , , , |

It’s a new year and a lot of people make resolutions or create goals. Whether it’s a resolution or a goal, the key is not to make them so big that you won’t achieve what you set out to do.  Make one small change for each resolution or goal and over time those small changes will bring you closer to the result you want to see. Making a small change is not going to magically right things overnight. There are no quick fixes in life. Whatever brought you to the feeling that something isn’t working for you didn’t happen suddenly.  [...]

Want Different Results? Take Action to Try Something Different

By |2020-11-17T13:41:17-06:00January 1st, 2020|Categories: Change, Problem Solving|Tags: , , , |

Are you stuck in a rut? Do you want different results? As we go along life’s path, things change and the routines and processes that worked so well for us in the past are not working today. Maybe you need to take action to try something different then what you’ve been doing. If you think about it, it makes sense. When you continue doing the same things but don’t get the results you want, a change in the actions you take is required. When I get stuck in an aspect of my life, the phrase that Albert Einstein made popular [...]

Making Changes May Not be as Difficult as You Think

By |2020-11-17T13:41:19-06:00August 21st, 2019|Categories: Change|Tags: , , , , |

Some people dread making changes, others not so much.  I get it.  We get into our comfort zones especially as we age.  I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, ‘she’s set in her ways’.  There’s that comfort zone again. It’s called a comfort zone for a reason. We may not be happy in our current environment, but we know what to expect, so there’s a certain level of comfort in knowing what’s going to happen next whether we like it or not. Making changes just for the sake of change is not a good reason as far as I’m concerned. If [...]

P.E.A.C.E. Step 5 – Evaluate

By |2020-11-17T13:41:26-06:00May 30th, 2018|Categories: Home Organization, Peace|Tags: , , , , |

Several years ago, I wrote a post called, ‘Creating Peace at Home Through Organizing’.  Click on the link to read the full article.  The article explains why decluttering and organizing the spaces in your home is so important to achieve peace in your life. In that post I used the acronym PEACE to describe the five steps in the organizing process.  The acronym was created to depict the result of organized spaces - peace. This post is the fifth and last in the series to provide more details for each step in the organizing process. You can read the first [...]

By |2020-11-17T13:41:34-06:00July 22nd, 2015|Categories: back to school, Routines|Tags: , |

Yes it’s that time again, to start preparing for the kids to go back to school.   There are many things that need to be done but probably the most important is to establish or reestablish daily routines.  Summer schedules or lack of, may mean staying up late and sleeping later and wreak havoc on the routines established from the last school year. Daily routines are essential to ensure your child is ready to get everything they need out of the education system to be all that they can be when they grow up. Some things may have changed since the [...]

How Grief Can Affect Your Routines

By |2020-11-17T13:41:34-06:00July 15th, 2015|Categories: Grief, Routines|Tags: , |

Loss is difficult for us all and comes in many forms.  When you lose someone you love from a death, a major life change such as a divorce, or you lose a job with a company you had for many years, you will experience grief. When You Retire, What’s Your Reason to Get Out of Bed in The Morning?

By |2021-06-03T17:34:54-05:00June 10th, 2015|Categories: Retirement|Tags: , , , |

Image courtesy of winnond / FreeDigitalPhotos.net   If your answer to that question is, because I have to pee, that’s not what I mean.  That’s probably the number one answer to that question.  Other answers could be – to get ready for work, or to get into the tasks of the day, whatever those might be for you, or maybe to leave for a much needed vacation.  Those are valid answers, but again, not what I mean.   We all have to make a living, clean the house, do yard work, take care of others, take care of our health, etc. [...]
