Mom Can’t Live Alone Anymore

By |2020-11-17T13:41:32-06:00July 21st, 2016|Categories: Eldercare, Planning, Seniors|Tags: , , , , |

There may come a day when mom can’t live alone anymore.  There are many different scenarios that could result in a senior loved one unable to live alone.  It’s typically poor health, either mentally or physically that indicates the need for mom to find a new home. Family members are often blindsided if mom’s health has been good, then a sudden illness or injury leaves her unable to care for herself so she can no longer live alone.  Sometimes health declines steadily but mom won’t mention it because she doesn’t want to become a burden, or she knows she doesn’t [...]

Let’s Discuss Priorities

By |2020-11-17T13:41:33-06:00June 8th, 2016|Categories: Planning, Productivity, Time Management|Tags: , , |

Priorities are things that are more important than other things, and need to be dealt with first.  That is the definition as shown in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. As I think about priorities, I understand that they are different for everyone.  Your perception of yours may be viewed differently than the way someone else may view them.  Someone else may feel that one of your priorities is more important than another.  Perception plays a big part in determining what is more important than something else.  This comes into play when you work for someone else.  They may want you to [...]

Preparing For My Kitchen Remodel

By |2022-04-29T13:14:28-05:00May 18th, 2016|Categories: Home Remodeling, Organizing Tips, Planning|Tags: , , |

As mentioned at the end of my last post, Planning My Kitchen Remodel, the next topic in this series is preparing for the first step, demolition. Where will it all go? Everything has to be removed from the room, or in my case, rooms.  I likened it to moving from one house to another, only on a smaller scale.  Everything in the space needs to be packed up and moved somewhere else.  If you have a large home, this may not be an issue.  In my case, my home is not real big so I had to get creative in [...]

Planning My Kitchen Remodel

By |2021-05-21T16:21:18-05:00May 3rd, 2016|Categories: Home Remodeling, Planning|Tags: , , |

As mentioned at the end of my first article, Spring Into Home Remodeling Projects, the next article would be about planning, so here it is. Timing I chose spring because Midwest winters can be harsh & I wanted to use the garage as a staging area but need the garage for our cars. A staging area is needed to store furnishings while the floor is being laid, and to store delivered materials prior to the project start date.  Oh yes I forgot to mention that the family room next to the kitchen needs new flooring, so it will be [...]

Spring Into Home Remodeling Projects

By |2021-05-21T16:01:41-05:00April 6th, 2016|Categories: Home Remodeling|Tags: , , |

Spring is typically a busy time to start home remodeling projects.  After being in the house for so long over the winter months, we notice things about our homes that we would like to change. It may not be a ‘nice to have situation’, it may be out of necessity.   In my case, my kitchen really, really needed some help.  It’s an older home and parts of the kitchen were maintained, not updated.  Appliances may have been changed out as they broke down, but little else was done.  The inside of the cabinets are metal, which I believe was the [...]

How to Schedule Tasks to Accomplish Goals

By |2020-11-17T13:41:33-06:00January 24th, 2016|Categories: Planning, Time Management|Tags: , , |

Planning is typically a hot topic at the beginning of the new year.  Some make New Year’s resolutions on a whim, perhaps at a party.  Others create goals and make a plan to accomplish those goals.  Another scenario is to tweak an existing plan that may not be working so well. Part of the planning process should include scheduling tasks associated with your goals.  Having a plan is great, but if you don’t actually schedule the time to complete the tasks, those tasks may just fall by the wayside, and you may end up not meeting your goals. Things can [...]

Image courtesy of Stuart Miles / FreeDigitalPhotos.net   The holidays sometimes seem to creep up on us before we know it.  We have so much to do on a regular basis that we don’t always realize a holiday is quickly approaching.  I know that has happened to me more than once. Keeping our sanity during these times can be a challenge! So much to do and so little time! Things like figuring out gifts for everyone on our lists, cleaning, decorating, cooking, etc.  We want our holidays to be memorable and that can cause us to put more on ourselves [...]

When You Retire, What’s Your Reason to Get Out of Bed in The Morning?

By |2021-06-03T17:34:54-05:00June 10th, 2015|Categories: Retirement|Tags: , , , |

Image courtesy of winnond / FreeDigitalPhotos.net   If your answer to that question is, because I have to pee, that’s not what I mean.  That’s probably the number one answer to that question.  Other answers could be – to get ready for work, or to get into the tasks of the day, whatever those might be for you, or maybe to leave for a much needed vacation.  Those are valid answers, but again, not what I mean.   We all have to make a living, clean the house, do yard work, take care of others, take care of our health, etc. [...]

Time Management is All About the Choices You Make

By |2020-11-17T13:41:36-06:00December 21st, 2014|Categories: Time Management|Tags: , |

Image courtesy of Stuart Miles / FreeDigitalPhotos.net We cannot actually manage time. Time is a constant. It cannot be stopped or paused, it continues no matter what. All of us have the same amount of time, 24 hours in each day, that’s all, no more, no less. According to Wikipedia on Answers.com – Time management is the act or process of planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency or productivity. Based on the definition above, the term, ‘time management’, is about planning and planning is about the choices [...]
