Do you flinch at the very thought of the coming holidays? Are you afraid you won’t select the perfect gifts? Or forget to prepare a favorite dish? Or maybe miss sending a card to someone you have not seen for a long time? Are you so busy rushing around performing tasks that you don’t get a chance to visit with your guests? Holidays can be very stressful events for a variety of reasons. The most popular main holidays, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas are probably the most stressful, but they don’t have to be. It should be a festive time for families [...]

After Christmas Sales

By |2020-11-17T13:41:43-06:00December 17th, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Holidays, Storage|Tags: , |

These after Christmas sales are almost as popular as Black Friday sales.  I say almost.  That is if you have any money left after Christmas.  The retailers use this day to mark down mostly holiday decorations, to get rid of the last of the current year’s inventory.  They do have other items that are significantly marked down, but most of it is pretty much picked over. I’ve seen after Christmas sales in the past that are as much as 75-80% off the regular price, or sometimes even sale prices. It’s a great time to stock up on holiday paper products, [...]

Do you get anxious every year as we approach the holiday season? Perhaps when you begin to see Christmas ads in your mailbox, or holiday displays in stores that you frequent. Retailers seem to start earlier and earlier every year, sometimes before Halloween. It can be overwhelming, and a reminder that you better start your holiday planning so you will be ready for this festive time of year. It can be a stressful time. There are gifts to make or purchase, some that may need to be sent to loved ones in another state or country. Possibly greeting cards to mail, [...]

Here we are, once again, at the beginning of October and just past the autumnal equinox. Temperatures are cooling, leaves are beginning to turn colors and will soon begin their descent from their limbs to the ground. Fall decorations are beginning to appear in shop windows and in many homes around the neighborhood. The holidays are just around the corner, and it’s time to begin preparations for all the festive events that take place this time of year. As we begin to plan for the upcoming holidays and the gatherings with family and friends, meal planning is a big piece of the [...]

Gift Giving for the Holidays

By |2020-11-17T13:41:49-06:00December 12th, 2011|Categories: Holiday Organization, Holidays, Organizing Tips|Tags: , , |

Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and Joy to the World are just some of the wonderful carols we sing to celebrate the season. We hear them piped into all the stores earlier and earlier every year. It’s the retailer’s way of getting us in the holiday moodand enticing us to buy gifts from them for all our gift giving. Some of the stores even have a calendar countdown to show us how few days we have left until Christmas. It’s a lot of pressure on us to make sure we have all the gifts purchased for everyone on our list. And finding [...]

Are You Organized For Black Friday Shopping?

By |2020-11-17T13:41:49-06:00November 23rd, 2011|Categories: Holidays, Organizing Tips, Planning|Tags: , , , |

Well here we are again, approaching Thanksgiving with thoughts of turkey, dressing, pies, parades and football. It’s a great holiday that enables us to give thanks for the many blessings in our lives, to share a feast prepared by family and friends, and perhaps to nap after lapsing into a turkey coma. I always wear pants that stretch to allow me to eat, eat, eat, and then eat some more! But I digress. Thanksgiving also marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season and retailers have been advertising Black Friday deals for a while now. It seems that the stores open earlier [...]
