Ways That Clutter Steals Your Peace

By | August 1st, 2019|Categories: Decluttering|Tags: , , , |

Clutter is invasive and steals your peace.  Much like weeds in your garden that grow over and around the plants that you love.  Those weeds can strangle and kill your beloved plants. Clutter accumulates on top and around things like the weeds in your garden.  It will cover all the open space if you allow it which causes stagnant energy. Stagnant energy causes stress, and stress steals your peace. Think about your house when it’s closed up for a period of time, how it feels when you walk in the door.  There’s no energy, or air moving around so it [...]

The main reason to create a home inventory as you may have suspected, is for insurance purposes. Whether you rent or own your home, purchasing insurance to cover a loss to your property is just a good idea. Setting up a household can be expensive.  From the big-ticket items like furniture and major appliances, to clothes, home goods and home décor, all of this can cost a pretty penny! If you were to add up what you paid for all the big stuff, for instance, you could double that amount and you may get some idea of what it would [...]

By | September 26th, 2018|Categories: Home Organization, Storage|Tags: , , , , |

Do you or your kids play hockey?  If so, is hockey storage an issue? I’m guessing that you have a lot of equipment - sticks, skates, pads, helmets, jerseys, pucks, etc.  I’m also guessing that storing all this gear and keeping it organized can be challenging for many reasons. The biggest challenge for hockey storage may be location, location, location!  You may have gear stashed all over the house, creating clutter and possibly damaging that expensive equipment. You need a significant amount of space that is out of the way, yet close to vehicles for quick loading and unloading.  The [...]

By | September 12th, 2017|Categories: Decluttering, Focus, Productivity|Tags: , , , , |

Anything can be organized, even your thoughts.  We say that we can’t help the way we think, but we can!  There may be things in life that we have no control over, but our thoughts are not one of them. When a thought comes to mind, you make the choice to accept or reject that thought.  Your choice may be conscious or subconscious, but either way it’s your choice. Our brains function basically like computers. They are constantly processing information; incoming thoughts and outgoing actions. At times, so many thoughts are floating around in our heads that we can’t keep [...]

Fold T Shirts & File in Drawers

By | August 16th, 2017|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips|Tags: , , , |

Everyone has t shirts. Not everyone stores their t shirts the same way. Unless you hang them on hangers, you probably fold t shirts.  Some store them on a closet shelf, while others store them in drawers. When you store folded t shirts on shelves, you can easily see the colors which makes it easy to choose the t shirt you want to wear.  That’s not usually the case when they are stored in a drawer.  Since they’re stacked, you can’t easily see the t shirts on the bottom of the stack.  This may be one reason why we wear [...]

By | January 20th, 2017|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips, Rightsizing, Storage|Tags: , , |

Media storage can be challenging for many reasons.  Even though we’re living in the on-demand digital age, many of us have physical media that we still use.  Just like items that we can touch, we need to find a place for media to live and that means storage. Typically, we store our things where we use them. That makes our things easily accessible where and when we need them, and we know what we own so we don’t buy duplicates. As mentioned in previous posts, our belongings need to be proportionate to our living spaces.  With that in mind, [...]

Junk Drawers = Miscellaneous

By | December 21st, 2016|Categories: Home Organization, Kitchen, Organizing Tips, Storage|Tags: , , , , |

Junk drawers are equivalent to a box marked ‘miscellaneous’.  Organizers tend to shy away from those labels.  Why you ask?  Because it’s a catchall phrase that means that the items in the junk drawer or misc box have no assigned homes.  And we don’t actually know what is inside this junk drawer or misc box. We have to dig through said drawers or boxes to find what we are looking for. Another reason could be that these items have assigned homes, but because we are busy, it’s just quicker to stash it away in a nearby drawer than to put [...]

Behavior Based Organizing

By | October 19th, 2016|Categories: Productivity, Routines, Time Management|Tags: , , , , |

What is behavior based organizing?  The answer is, organizing solutions based on natural habits and routines.  If a solution is created that requires actions radically different than you are used to, it forces you to radically change your behavior.  When you force a behavior change, you are less likely to maintain your solutions. We all have them, even the most disorganized have some established routines and habits.  These routines may, or may not work well, depending on how you organize the steps.  The key is the efficiency of the steps in the routine, in terms of behavior.  Organization equals efficiency.
