By |2022-01-21T10:48:35-06:00September 12th, 2017|Categories: Decluttering, Focus, Productivity|Tags: , , , , |

Anything can be organized, even your thoughts.  We say that we can’t help the way we think, but we can!  There may be things in life that we have no control over, but our thoughts are not one of them. When a thought comes to mind, you make the choice to accept or reject that thought.  Your choice may be conscious or subconscious, but either way it’s your choice. Our brains function basically like computers. They are constantly processing information; incoming thoughts and outgoing actions. At times, so many thoughts are floating around in our heads that we can’t keep [...]

Fold T Shirts & File in Drawers

Everyone has t shirts. Not everyone stores their t shirts the same way. Unless you hang them on hangers, you probably fold t shirts.  Some store them on a closet shelf, while others store them in drawers. When you store folded t shirts on shelves, you can easily see the colors which makes it easy to choose the t shirt you want to wear.  That’s not usually the case when they are stored in a drawer.  Since they’re stacked, you can’t easily see the t shirts on the bottom of the stack.  This may be one reason why we wear [...]

Media Storage-How to Determine Your Needs

By |2020-11-17T13:41:31-06:00January 20th, 2017|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips, Rightsizing, Storage|Tags: , , |

Media storage can be challenging for many reasons.  Even though we’re living in the on-demand digital age, many of us have physical media that we still use.  Just like items that we can touch, we need to find a place for media to live and that means storage. Typically, we store our things where we use them. That makes our things easily accessible where and when we need them, and we know what we own so we don’t buy duplicates. As mentioned in previous posts, our belongings need to be proportionate to our living spaces.  With that in mind, [...]

Junk Drawers = Miscellaneous

By |2020-11-17T13:41:31-06:00December 21st, 2016|Categories: Home Organization, Kitchen, Organizing Tips, Storage|Tags: , , , , |

Junk drawers are equivalent to a box marked ‘miscellaneous’.  Organizers tend to shy away from those labels.  Why you ask?  Because it’s a catchall phrase that means that the items in the junk drawer or misc box have no assigned homes.  And we don’t actually know what is inside this junk drawer or misc box. We have to dig through said drawers or boxes to find what we are looking for. Another reason could be that these items have assigned homes, but because we are busy, it’s just quicker to stash it away in a nearby drawer than to put [...]

Behavior Based Organizing

By |2022-02-07T10:32:51-06:00October 19th, 2016|Categories: Routines|Tags: , , , , |

What is behavior based organizing?  The answer is, organizing solutions based on natural habits and routines.  If a solution is created that requires actions radically different than you are used to, it forces you to radically change your behavior.  When you force a behavior change, you are less likely to maintain your solutions. We all have them, even the most disorganized have some established routines and habits.  These routines may, or may not work well, depending on how you organize the steps.  The key is the efficiency of the steps in the routine, in terms of behavior.  Organization equals efficiency. Minimalism – The Path to Health & Happiness

By |2020-11-17T13:41:32-06:00August 25th, 2016|Categories: Downsizing, Home Organization, Organizing Tips, Rightsizing|Tags: , , , |

There have been a lot of posts on the internet lately about minimalism.  It seems to be surfacing in a lot of ways everywhere.  As an organizer and Feng Shui enthusiast, I love the concept.  The idea of letting go of items that aren’t necessary is simplicity in the most basic form.  Eliminating unnecessary items, clutter, allows the energy (chi) to flow freely through your living spaces.  Good energy flow allows for health and happiness. Everyone I know tells me they have too much stuff.  I hear that from pretty much every client that I have ever worked with.  [...]

Options For Lid Storage

By |2020-11-17T13:41:32-06:00August 14th, 2016|Categories: Home Organization, Kitchen, Organizing Tips|Tags: , , , |

Do you find it difficult to organize and store all the lids that you have for pots & pans or plasticware?  I know I did, so that’s why I decided to write a post on lid storage. They come in all shapes and sizes. Some are flexible, and some are not.  Nesting works great for the items the lids accompany, but storing the lids is another story.  Your cabinets can become a tangled mess of lids which makes it difficult to find the lid you need. I want to share with you how I turned my lid chaos into organized [...]
