As I look out my window at about a foot of snow, it’s hard to believe that spring began just a couple of weeks ago. I’m not sure if Punxsutawney Phil actually saw his shadow or not, but we certainly didn’t see an early spring here in the Midwest. I’m glad I didn’t put away the snow blower just yet. At this time of year, we start preparing for the coming of spring in terms of spring cleaning, and that can mean to shed weight…clutter weight. Changing our wardrobes from cold winter weather to warmer spring weather can jump start us [...]

After Christmas Sales

By |2020-11-17T13:41:43-06:00December 17th, 2012|Categories: Holiday Organization, Holidays, Storage|Tags: , |

These after Christmas sales are almost as popular as Black Friday sales.  I say almost.  That is if you have any money left after Christmas.  The retailers use this day to mark down mostly holiday decorations, to get rid of the last of the current year’s inventory.  They do have other items that are significantly marked down, but most of it is pretty much picked over. I’ve seen after Christmas sales in the past that are as much as 75-80% off the regular price, or sometimes even sale prices. It’s a great time to stock up on holiday paper products, [...]

Whatever the reason, you now have too much stuff to fit [...]

Organize Your Garage in a Weekend

By |2020-11-17T13:41:46-06:00June 11th, 2012|Categories: Home Organization, Organizing Tips|Tags: , , , |

What’s in your garage?  Do you have garden tools, lawn care equipment, sporting equipment, boxes of who knows what that won’t fit in your house?  Does your car have to stay in the driveway because it won’t fit in the garage?  If the answer to any of these questions is a resounding YES, then maybe it’s time to organize your garage. The garage can become a catchall for stuff that hasn’t been assigned a home or that you intend to put away later, then you get busy with something else and forget.   A lot of people use the garage for [...]

Coming Out Of The Closet – Eliminate Closet Clutter

By |2020-11-17T13:41:50-06:00August 23rd, 2011|Categories: Decluttering, Home Organization, Organizing Tips|Tags: , , , |

Do you know what’s in your closet? This is a great question. We all have closets in our living environments that are used for different things. A hall or foyer closet can be used to store coats, hats, umbrellas and maybe even the vacuum cleaner, mine does. Bedroom closets are typically used for clothes, shoes and accessories, but if you are short on storage space, it may need to double as another function such as a linen closet. Closets can also become great hiding places. I remember as a child when my Mom told me to clean my room and [...]
