Do you get anxious every year as we approach the holiday season? Perhaps when you begin to see Christmas ads in your mailbox, or holiday displays in stores that you frequent. Retailers seem to start earlier and earlier every year, sometimes before Halloween. It can be overwhelming, and a reminder that you better start your holiday planning so you will be ready for this festive time of year. It can be a stressful time. There are gifts to make or purchase, some that may need to be sent to loved ones in another state or country. Possibly greeting cards to mail, [...]

Planning For The New Year – 5 Points to Consider

By |2020-11-17T13:41:48-06:00December 27th, 2011|Categories: Planning, Productivity|Tags: , , |

Planning for the new year may not be not be front and center of your thoughts right now. The end of the year is typically busier than any other time of the year. We prepare our yards for winter by raking leaves, trimming bushes and putting down winter fertilizer. We prepare for the holidays by planning menus, buying gifts and decorating. We also tend to think about the things we want to accomplish in the coming year. Maybe you or someone in your family got engaged, so you’re thinking about wedding plans.  Or a new baby is on the way.  Or [...]

Are You Organized For Black Friday Shopping?

By |2020-11-17T13:41:49-06:00November 23rd, 2011|Categories: Holidays, Organizing Tips, Planning|Tags: , , , |

Well here we are again, approaching Thanksgiving with thoughts of turkey, dressing, pies, parades and football. It’s a great holiday that enables us to give thanks for the many blessings in our lives, to share a feast prepared by family and friends, and perhaps to nap after lapsing into a turkey coma. I always wear pants that stretch to allow me to eat, eat, eat, and then eat some more! But I digress. Thanksgiving also marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season and retailers have been advertising Black Friday deals for a while now. It seems that the stores open earlier [...]

Organizing For Outdoor Activities – Let’s Have a Barbecue!

By |2020-11-17T13:41:50-06:00May 24th, 2011|Categories: Organizing Tips, Planning, Reduce Stress|Tags: , , , |

Summer is a great time for outdoor activities. Warm temperatures have a way of enticing us outside to enjoy all that nature has to offer. Whether it’s working in the garden, attending a local festival, or just taking a walk to get some exercise, being outside can provide relaxation and energize you all at the same time. One of my favorite outdoor activities is the all-American backyard barbecue. Getting together with friends and family to relax, catch up and just enjoy the company is therapeutic. However, organizing such events can sometimes cause us to stress out a bit. Whether it’s an impromptu gathering, [...]

Being Prepared Is Not Just For Boy Scouts Anymore

By |2020-11-17T13:41:50-06:00April 27th, 2011|Categories: Emergency Preparedness, Planning|Tags: , |

Spring is finally here, woo hoo! Living in the Midwest can be harsh during the winter months, with the biting cold weather, snow and ice that seemed to go on forever. But I think we’ve seen the last of it for awhile, at least I hope so. I say this because the flowers are blooming, leaves are popping out on the trees, and the grass is turning from brown to green. In order to get the beautiful spring colors, we need rain, and along with the rain, can come storms, flooding, and possibly tornado's. I guess we have to take the [...]

I don’t have enough time!

By |2020-11-17T13:41:51-06:00February 16th, 2011|Categories: Planning, Productivity, Time Management|Tags: , , , |

“I’m too busy, I don’t have enough time!” It seems like everyone I talk to these days is saying this same thing. I understand. I feel the same way. Sometimes it feels like I’m on a runaway treadmill that simply won’t stop. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to accomplish everything on my list of things to do, or so it seems. You know that list, the one that you constantly add to and seem to never get everything on it checked off. So, maybe it’s not the actual list that makes us feel that we don't have [...]

Having the Proper Mindset Helps to Achieve Goals

By |2020-11-17T13:41:51-06:00February 8th, 2011|Categories: Focus, Motivation, Planning|Tags: , , |

One of my goals for 2011 is to lose some weight. I’ve done it before so I knew I could do it again. About 10 or 12 years ago I had success on the Weight Watchers plan counting points, and lost about 30 pounds. It amazed me that I was able to keep the weight off for most of those years. I guess that just shows how good of a weight loss plan it is. It also shows how having the proper mindset allowed me to keep on achieving my goals. Because of my past success with Weight Watchers, and the [...]

Traveling – Leavin on a Jet Plane

By |2020-11-17T13:41:52-06:00December 28th, 2010|Categories: Organizing Tips, Planning, Travel, Vacations|Tags: , , |

I love traveling! Seeing new sights and meeting new people is a wonderful experience. Traveling also creates memories that last a lifetime. Getting away from time to time provides an escape from the day to day activities that can create a lot of stress in our lives. Spontaneous trips are fun, but could add to your stress and cost more by not having a plan. You may forget to bring essential items that could be expensive when purchased in another state or country. Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, a well thought out plan can eliminate stress to [...]

Traveling With Kids – Are we there yet?

By |2020-11-17T13:41:53-06:00November 22nd, 2010|Categories: Organizing Tips, Planning, Travel, Vacations|Tags: , , , , |

When traveling with kids, you often hear this question - 'are we there yet?' These are 4 words that parents hear from the backseat a lot when traveling, especially during holiday travels.  Kids get bored easily and just sitting there without anything to keep them busy will prompt this question frequently. They are also probably excited to get to their destination to start the holiday festivities! Some kids have more energy than others, and sitting still for long periods of time can be difficult for them.  Small children that are required to ride in car seats have more of an issue [...]
